Death of 17 Years old Sudanese Refugee in Egyptian Police Custody
Justice Africa Sudan (JAS) expresses concern over the death of Sudanese refugee Al Nazeir Al-Sadiq Ali Mohamed Bashir while in Egyptian police custody
Al-Nazeir, a registered Sudanese refugee holding a valid UNHCR protection card, was arrested by Egyptian police on 18 January 2026 in front of his residence in Cairo. He was detained at the Badr Police Detention Centre, where he remained in harsh, degrading conditions that failed to meet minimum legal and humanitarian standards.
Al-Nazieir had a chronic illness and required regular medication; however, he was denied access to his prescribed medicine. On 11 February 2026, he died inside the detention facility under circumstances that raise serious concerns of abuse, neglect, or ill-treatment. …read more
