Subject: Urgent Appeal to the United Nations Security Council Regarding the Bombing of Gold Miners in Sudan
Please find attached a letter from representatives of Sudanese civil society organisations concerning the recent bombing of civilian gold miners in Sudan. This letter draws urgent attention to grave allegations of attacks against civilians engaged in artisanal gold mining activities, resulting in loss of life, injuries, and widespread fear among local communities. These incidents raise serious concerns regarding violations of international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians in conflict-affected areas. As Sudan continues to experience a devastating humanitarian and security crisis, we respectfully urge the United Nations Security Council to give immediate attention to these reported attacks, ensure independent investigations into the incidents, and take all necessary measures to protect civilian populations and uphold accountability for violations of international law. The attached communication provides details of the incidents, the concerns of affected communities, and recommendations for international action. We would be grateful if this letter could be circulated among members of the Security Council and brought to the attention of all relevant UN mechanisms. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We remain available to provide any additional information that may assist your deliberations.
